SC2 Hybrid units and others from Piercing the Shroud Mission

Postby edepot on Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:40 pm

In StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, there was one secret mission that concentrated on Hybrids (Protoss/Zerg units). That mission was called Piercing the Shroud, and you can gain access by unlocking it from the Media Blitz mission. Piercing the Shroud concentrated on a floating platform called Castanar. It contained secret experiments to merge Protoss and Zerg units.

Although there were many official hybrids in the game (Hybrid Destroyer and Hybrid Reaver), there were other hybrids in water tanks being experimented on. The following is a listing of these hybrids.

To start off, here is the Zealot hybrid.

SC2 Hybrid Tauren

Postby edepot on Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:00 pm

Here is the Hybrid Tauren. Tauren are actually cow related species from the World of WarCraft game universe (also created by Blizzard).

SC2 Hybrid primitive crab

Postby edepot on Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:12 pm

Here is a Hybrid Metroid. It seems Blizzard is taking ideas from the Metroid game created by Nintendo. This Hybrid Metroid seems to resemble the infant or regular Metroid stages of its development (later stages are the Alpha Metroid, Gamma Metroid, Zeta Metroid, Omega Metroid, and finally Queen Metroid). Note that the Hybrid Roach above may resemble the Gamma Metroid stage, but with four head appendages instead of three.

SC2 Pygalisk

Postby edepot on Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:25 pm

Although this is not a Hybrid, it is in the same Piercing the Shroud mission. A Pygalisk is a small version of the Ultralisk, with only 50 health, and is a little smaller than a Zerg roach. It probably takes only 1 supply, and if it is in the game, it will probably be positioned between zergling and roach. One zerg unit idea that I think was unfortunately not implemented is the concept of a growing zerg. You start off with a Pygalisk, then it grows into an Ultralisk, and then to an Omegalisk. Each time it grows, it takes up more supply, but gains more health and damage abilities. It would be like a long term unit that you must incubate to really get good return. A Pygalisk pops from its own special type of Pygalisk Cocoon egg.
