PS3 Blu-ray laser lens

Thanks for the thorough information provided on the PS3 secret page.

My PS3 is currently having some trouble with the blu-ray drive, which actually recognises discs but just would not read them. Since the motor and the sensor seem fine, I suspect the lens is faulty (but I am not sure if it is just dirty. Is there a quick and easy way to check that?). I am thus in a process of hunting a new laser lens, however I am a little confused by the details given by the page and a previous post regarding the model of the laser lenses. I have a 60G Australian version of PS3 with model number starting with CECHC. According to the table, the lens model is KEM-400AAA, but according to a previous post couple months earlier, the KES-400AAA is the same as KEM-400AAA, though without a mount.

This brings about my question, which contains multiple parts. First, would a lens with model number KES-400AAA fit in my PS3? Is the mount important? If the mount is important, will I be able to fit a KES-400AAA into the mount that comes with my PS3?

It may seem confusing at first but once you understand how the model numbers are labelled it becomes more logical. Some parts were labelled on the PS3 that indicated what they were. However, some shops sold individual parts also that fit inside the bigger parts. So if you see something like: KES... or KEM... then just ignore everything and look at the S and M. M means MOUNT, which would normally include the S parts. So in previous posts like:

KEM would mean a part that contains everything including the lens and the mount. While a KES... would not have the mount, just the lens portion and its immediate surrounding parts. BUT, you have to realize that you need to open up your PS3 to know FOR SURE what parts you have because sometimes a single model number of the PS3 has older or newer parts during their construction at various time periods. From your CECHC model number, it would seem it would have the 400 model, but again, open up your PS3 to be sure. Then what you would do is look at the pictures on the internet of parts being sold and see which one you have. You can also check on the parts itself for their serial number if they are labelled on them. Check the post above and follow through them for more details and links of where you can purchase parts.

Here is a picture comparing the old CECHH PS3 (Fat) Blu-ray lens and the new CECH-20xx PS3 Slim Blu-ray lens.
Again, it seems the combination of using one lens for both Blu-ray and CD/DVD seen in the original CECHA PS3 is now gone forever. Right now Sony uses two lens, one for Blu-ray and one for CD and DVD (as you can see in the picture below).
